My Why: The Importance of Getting in the Frame with your Family

Sometimes, as an artist, I get caught up in finding the perfect light, nailing compositions, and trying to see things I shoot frequently from fresh new perspectives. It can be frustrating when I don’t exceed the expectations I set for myself. As my lifeline, Kenzie, is often on the receiving end of those creative spirals I occasionally go down, the ones that leave me questioning my artistic voice.

Every single time, she brings me back to my why. She grounds me. She reminds me that at my core, I shoot for mothers who pour everything into their families. Mothers who work hard and provide magic on the daily. Mothers who don’t often get to see their true selves reflected back to them in a photograph with their children. Mothers who want to preserve a lifetime of memories for the families they love.

Being that she is often the force pushing me a little higher and further into gloriously unfamiliar territory, I’m thrilled when she gives me the opportunity to put her in the frame with her family. To show up for her like she shows up for me.
